Bells and Whistles that Go Unheard
In today's society we are becoming more and more web-driven. Sites are being developed for almost anything and everything. Sites exist today that provide healthcare advice, sell lingerie or parts for your mower. The challenge is how does one make a site interactive to deliver the utmost in a customer shopping experience. Technology and ingenuity have created some wonderful interactive tools. If one dreams it, chances are that one can create it or that someone else has created a tool that will do it for you.
Some sites have become very aggressive in developing more than one interactive tool that makes visiting or shopping at their site enjoyable and functional. Caution! Make sure that any interactive tool works at least 99.9% of the time and that it adds value. One does not want to frustrate the customers because someone skimped on the quality assurance.
Questions to ask when designing a site from an interactive perspective:
- What features would make visiting a site worth coming back for?
- Can it be designed for ease of use?
- Can an appropriate quality assurance testing scenario be designed so as to anticipate all possible customer responses for functionality?
- Will this feature be scalable - can it be done in phases or have the option to make improvements or enhancements?
- What can one learn about the customers from this tool?
- Does the programming experience exist from team members to accomplish this?
- What is the budget to deliver the functionality and is it worth the "have" for the category?
- Can this be branded as an identifiable added value to your overall site?
- Could this be customized for other sites - possible application development selling opportunity?
- What ROI is expected from this tool?
